Is it okay to use webmail?

Webmail is more risky than IMAP or POP connections that are encrypted and use secure authentication. Only login to websites that have secure logins such as HTTPS or that display a lock in the bottom right-hand corner of your browser. If you are using Gmail for example, make sure you enable HTTPS all of the time in settings. If you are using a Web Browser and you don’t see the encryption lock, you are passing your login and password credentials in plain text (unencrypted) format. An observer of your plain text web traffic could capture your data, and then log into your account to read your mail, steal your identity, or worse.
