Leading VPN provider points to WikiLeaks founder’s findings that show smart phone and email users are ‘screwed’ if they don’t protect themselves.
VPN4ALL, a VPN service that provides its subscribers with online and mobile security, privacy and anonymity, is pointing out that Julian Assange, founder of WikiLeaks, has uncovered over 1,100 documents that illustrate the reality of a multi-billion-dollar surveillance industry, but much of the information collected from smart phones and email could be fully protected if it were encrypted and sent through a secure network, such as a VPN.
“What Mr. Assange has recently discussed in the press,” says says Alex Tishler, VP of VPN4ALL, “shows that there is a booming market for the data collected through various surveillance tactics and Trojan-like programs, such as Carrier IQ to use a recent example. In fact, Mr. Assange says more than 150 organizations around the world have the ability to use phones as tracking devices, as well as intercept messages and listen to calls. But we know that through encryption of data, most of this can be stopped. And the best way to encrypt data on a smart phone is to use a mobile VPN service.”
The tools needed for surveillance are not difficult to obtain, according to WikiLeaks. Already WikiLeaks, and its website SpyFiles.org, have identified over 130 dealers worldwide, 36 of which are in the United States, which sell tools, systems and software for monitoring the Internet and telephones, and including spying on SMS messages and intercepting GPS data.
A VPN service like VPN4ALL protects a user’s information whenever the person is on a Wi-Fi network and has the service enabled. The ability to enable a VPN mobile service comes standard in all iPhones, iPads, Androids and Windows Mobile or Tablet platforms, so nothing new has to be downloaded or installed on the device. Users just need to take the simple steps to turn it on.
Data sent over a VPN is fully encrypted, and any software or program that attacks the mobile device, trying to steal away data, will either be fully blocked as a Trojan or only encrypted data will be returned. This keeps browsing and password data secure, emails secure and SMS messages secure.
